FAQ's

General

Q.

What if my child has never played before?  Will he/she be at a disadvantage?

A.

We are a recreational league open to all who want to participate, regardless of experience or skill level.  We have many kids playing for the first time. If they work hard at practice and on their own, they should feel right at home with the other players.  In the older grades, your child may feel a little out of place at first, but our coaches will help him/her learn the game and will try to put them in positions to succeed.  The most important thing you can do, as parents, is to be positive and encourage your child to practice their skills each day at home.

Registration

Q.

What if my league shows "full" or "waitlisted"?

A.

Program capacity is limited by the court space made available to us by the Austin Tennis Academy (ATA) and as a result, it's common for our grades to fill to capacity.  If that happens, we will still accept registrations through the end of our registration period.  However, those registrations are put on a wait-list, pending a cancellation by another player.

Q.

What is the registration fee used for?

A.

The biggest expense for tennis is the fee we pay Austin Tennis Academy to lease the courts and pay the coaches.  In addition to facilities, the registration fees pay for uniform t-shirts, insurance, maintenance items, equipment, and end-of-season ribbons, awards etc.

Q.

We changed our minds.  Can we get a refund of our registration fees?

A.

Please refer to our LTYA Refund Policy.

Q.

I don't live in the Lake Travis Independent School District.  Can I still register my child?

A.

Yes!  We welcome children from all areas of Austin.  While you may have to drive further to bring your child to practices and games, we think we have one of the best youth tennis leagues around.  We would be happy to have you participate in our league.

Practices

Q.

Where are practices held?

A.

All practice sessions are held at Austin Tennis Academy.   ATA is located within the community of Spanish Oaks.  Our physical address is 6800 Spanish Oaks Club Blvd 78738.  Spanish Oaks Club Blvd. is .1 mile west of the intersection of 620 and 71.  If you get to the LTYA Field of Dreams, you have gone too far.  Turn on Spanish Oaks Club Blvd. (west entrance).  Go to the second traffic circle and we are on the left.  If the parking lot is full, please park on the grass to the left of our facility.   Please do not park on the circular drive or Spanish Oaks may tow.

Q.

How many practices are there each week?

A.

One or two.  Practices are held as listed in the schedule. Please consult the Tennis Home Page section of the Tennis site for the exact dates of the eight (8) sessions.  If a session is rained out, a make-up session will be held according to the schedule.  Make-ups are not offered for family convenience or missed sessions.

Q.

How long are practices?

A.

All sessions are held at Austin Tennis Academy in 1-hour sessions, according to grade level.

Q.

What should my child bring to practice/games?

A.

As a general rule, players should come dressed in shorts and a t-shirt.  Girls may prefer a tennis skirt, but that is not required.  Four layers and a hat is recommended in cold conditions.  Ideally, shorts should have pockets to hold a tennis ball.  LTYA provides a junior racquet for each player. The coaches prefer that the children use the appropriate-sized racquet that the coaches recommend.  Children should wear tennis shoes with non-marking soles.  Please avoid velcro-type closure or running shoes. Please bring a water jug or bottle of water with the players name on it.

Games

Q.

What should my child bring to games?

A.

See Practice section above.

Q.

Will we play over the holidays?

A.

No.  Please consult the Tennis site for the dates of the eight (8) sessions.
